A Journey Through Time: The Smiling Boy of Sir Syed Public School Gilgit at Dumpling Corner

In the heart of Gilgit, within the hallowed halls of Sir Syed Public School, a photograph captures the essence of a life story. The image, a part of the Carbon Roadside Arts photography exhibition, encapsulates the remarkable journey of a young boy over the span of seven years.

Photographed by Zaheer Chaudhry, the image showcases a smiling boy, the same one captured seven years earlier at the tender age of seven. His eyes, adorned with the same beautiful innocence, reflect the joy and charm of a native boy growing up in the valleys of Gilgit.

The photograph is more than a frozen moment; it narrates the incredible life history of a boy who, in 2016, was a helping hand to his father at a local food corner shop, specializing in Mamtu (dumplings). His routine included coming to the shop after school hours, embodying a commitment to both education and familial responsibilities.

Fast forward to 2022, the image captures the boy at the cusp of adolescence, now a student in grade 8 at the oldest school in the valley, Sir Syed Public School. The photograph stands as a testament to a series of Zaheer Chaudhry's continuous travels, stays, and his heartfelt mission of reconnecting with the people he has captured during previous visits.

Beyond the pixels and colors, the photograph becomes a canvas on which the narrative of resilience, growth, and commitment unfolds. It is a story that transcends time, weaving together the threads of a young boy's life, the challenges faced, and the triumphs celebrated. As this photograph graces the walls of Sir Syed Public School, it invites viewers to reflect on the transformative power of time and the enduring spirit of those captured within its frame.
